Open-minded Students

So, I was sitting in my Nature of Religion class when something struck me.  It happened when a person sitting right behind me started to argue with the professor.  Normally, this is a great way to delve deep into the content matter;  almost everyone believes that a bit of healthy debate is good.  What frustrates me is when someone proclaims that they are very open-minded, and then turns around and insists that his view is the only correct view.  His wording sounded like he was speaking for everyone, saying such things as:

“Obviously everyone knows…”

“Everyone thinks…”

Where does someone get away with speaking for everyone else?  Especially when the subject matter is incredibly subjective!  It is just incredibly frustrating to see this amount of close-mindedness in school.  It was kind of funny, because the girl who usually opposes every little thing that the Professor says began to tell him to stop being so closed off to new ideas.

I try my best to be open and respectful to other people’s ideas and beliefs.  I just hope that others can just be open enough to think outside their comfortable sphere.  It’s why we all became university students.  Isn’t it?
